Cocoa Husk Tea
The first time Franck and I tried the cocoa husk tea, we were mesmerized by the lovely chocolate aroma and delicate flavour of this herbal tea. We also couldn’t believe how the chocolate manufacturing process naturally embraced this zero-waste concept of using every single bit of the cocoa bean, including the shell.
WHAT IS COCOA HUSK TEA
When chocolate makers make chocolate from bean to bar, they have to go through a manufacturing process which entails:
Harvesting the cocoa pods
Fermenting the seeds
Drying the seeds, which are then called cocoa beans
Roasting the cocoa beans
Cracking and winnowing the roasted beans.
Winnowing is the method used to separate the bean from the shell.
The result is on one end the pure cocoa, also known as nibs, which will be ground to make chocolate. On the other end, the shell will become a delicious loose leaf tea - the cocoa husk tea.

HOW DO YOU USE COCOA HUSK TEA
Cocoa Husk Tea has the aroma of chocolate and a delicate taste of herbal teas.
You can enjoy it as a loose leaf tea. So for a 200ml mug, add 1tsp of cocoa husk tea in an infuser or a strainer and let step in hot water for 5-8 minutes depending on how mild or strong you like your tea.
You can then have it plain or add your favourite milk or sweetener. You can also use it to make a fruity iced tea by adding lemon and mint or orange and cinnamon.
